On 1st March 2023, Cyclone Judy battered Vanuatu, cutting power and forcing residents to evacuate. Two days later, Cyclone Kevin brought winds exceeding 230 km/h, and the nation declared a state of emergency. The impacts of these cyclones have been exacerbated by two earthquakes, 6.6 and 5.4 in magnitude, that occurred just off the island.
These disasters have impacted approximately 80% of Vanuatu’s population.
Global Care Australia and Shellharbour Community Church have each contributed $5,000 towards food and water for immediate relief. We are currently in the process of sourcing two 40-foot containers, one located in Shellharbour and one located in Tweed Heads. The containers will be sent to Port Vila and Tanna. They will be filled with building materials, seeds to replant produce, generators, small farm equipment, and tools.
We invite you to partner with us as we respond to the devastation affecting our brothers and sisters in Vanuatu.
Join us on our mission to love and serve people across Australia.
