Yes, we do! Once you have signed the relevant forms and documentation, you are covered by Global Care’s insurance policy. Ensuring the safety of our volunteers is our top priority! Before joining any Global Care site, all volunteers will go through a site safety induction. This includes learning about site safety regulations, emergency protocols, and how to manage potential hazards while working.

Nope! All people are welcome to apply as a Global Care volunteer, we do not discriminate based on religious beliefs.

We happily welcome volunteers from the age of 14 onwards! For those aged 14-17, we just need a parent’s permission and ask that they volunteer alongside a parent, group leader, or guardian. There are some tasks that we keep off-limits for our younger volunteers to ensure everyone’s safety.

Both individuals and groups are welcome to join us in most of our projects. If you’re interested in registering a group for volunteering, please let us know when you sign up, and someone from our team will reach out to you. We’re open to church groups, youth organisations, schools, companies, and any other types of groups who are keen to volunteer. However, please note that the number of participants in a group may be limited based on the project’s size and the worksite.

We would love if volunteers could commit to at least one full-day so they are able to really connect with the team as well as the property owners, however we understand that isn’t possible for everyone so we are happy to work with you as we would still love for you to be part of it. On average our volunteers participate from one to two weeks.

You’ll need to arrange your transportation to the disaster response location and cover any personal expenses during your stay. However, we’ll handle accommodation, team meals, and provide safety gear for you while you’re serving.

Certainly! Yes, usually, we offer basic dorm-style accommodations at our host church base for our volunteers. However, space might be limited depending on the disaster site. You might want to consider bringing along a pillow, sleeping bag, and an air mattress or cot if preferred. All the necessary items to bring will be clearly outlined in an orientation package provided to you.

We cannot typically accommodate parking or hook-ups for caravans, however you are free to book in a caravan park at your own expense.

Global Care will provide all the tools that will be needed, however if you have tools you’d like to bring, please enquire beforehand.

We supply personal protective equipment like masks, gloves, and safety glasses. However, you’ll need to bring your own durable, closed-toe footwear or work boots. We also advise bringing a hat, sunscreen, and wearing long pants and sleeves for added protection.

Many of the tasks involved in disaster clean-up involve some degree of physical mobility, like moving and lifting. However, there are also non-physical support roles available for volunteers to assist disaster survivors and our team. If you have any concerns about physical limitations affecting your ability to work, please communicate this with our team when you apply.

You can apply through the form anytime, however Australian Disaster Relief volunteer teams are mobilised solely in response to significant disaster events or during the subsequent recovery and clean-up phase, typically spanning 1-3 months post-disaster. When are disaster happens we will put a call out to our volunteers.
